Jeremy Peace admits he must 'repair the damage' with Saido Berahino after transfer fiasco

 
The England Under-21 striker handed in a transfer request last week but all four Spurs approaches for his services were rebuffed by the Baggies, citing a gross misunderstanding of his value.

Berahino subsequently took to Twitter to slam Peace for failing to supplement any deal, and Peace confessed that, while he feels Albion blossomed in the window, he must now mop up the mess regarding his wantaway striker’s future.

In a statement on the club's website, Peace said on West Brom's transfer business:
“We have spent a record amount of money on transfers for a single window and our wage commitments will be at record levels too,” said Peace.

“We have pushed our spending on new players as far as we can, ever-mindful of the fact that we have to run the Club on a solvent basis and within the Financial Fair Play rules.

“Tottenham’s offers failed substantially to reflect Saido’s true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.

“Saido has been unsettled to the point where our Head Coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.

“We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode.”
