UTD HAS BEST DEFENCE

Gary Neville believes Man United are the "best defensive team in the Premier League" - but is "concerned" by their lack of attacking threat.

There have been calls for Louis van Gaal to invest in another defender this summer, with the club actively chasing the signature of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid before he signed a new deal at the Bernabeu.
Meanwhile, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte have also been mentioned as possibilities.

However, after successive clean sheets against Tottenham and Aston Villa, Sky Sports pundit and England assistant coach Neville believes this points as evidence of their strength in that area.

Neville believes that since October last year United have proved their strength in defence, but are still lacking in forward areas.

“Over the last 10 months, since Michael Carrick came back into the team last November, they’ve been the best defensive team in the league," Neville said.

"People are asking the question about whether United can win the league and I do believe at this moment in time they’re short. But this is a really good foundation to build on."

“The football going forward, when would you ever say at Manchester United the football going forward is more concerning than the defending. This moment in time they’ve got the foundation they just need to get the front bit right.

"They’re not as exciting and they’re not creating as many chances as they should, but they can go a long way if they keep keeping clean sheets like they are.”
